Principal, Managing Director
With a personal history steeped in the arts, Cynthia admits, “For me, having artistic diversity puts less emphasis on a trend. Beauty, like art, is much more intuitive”.
Cynthia was destined for a life in beauty and fashion. Mentored by her Uncle Ray Raines, also a successful salon owner, award-winning stylist and President of the Cosmetologists Chicago in the 50’s and 60’s, Ray was pivotal in Cynthia’s destiny. She opened her first salon in 1983. It was a state-of-the-art studio where she encouraged her stylists to explore all realms of art and beauty without boundaries; a philosophy she lives by today.
Known by her peers as a strategist, conceptualist and philanthropist, Cynthia’s greatest pleasure is devoting time everyday to her team, their goals and their dreams. Picasso once said, ”Inspiration exists but it has to find us working”.
Joseph's transition from Musician to award winning stylist and platform artist was no surprise. "I had the calling to be a hairdresser", says Joseph. "I created and cut the hair of all my band members. The image of a musician is as important as the music they play."
Winner of the L.E.O. award in 2008, Joseph's contribution to hairdressing is recognized both as an outstanding Pivot Point Alumnus and his technical and creative skills as a hairdresser and educator. Joseph's in-salon training programs such as 'The Art Behind the Chair', 'Razor's Edge' and 'Tailor Made', create a challenge for any level hairdresser. "You have to be a thinking artist and hairdresser", says Joseph, "practically and creatively before jumping into the challenge."
As a member of Cosmetologists Chicago Board of Directors, Joseph takes a hands-on role in America's Beauty Show, the nation's largest show owned and operated by hairstylists and beauty professionals.
Genacelli Salon/The East Studio
Master Stylist/Salon Educator
Some stylists find cosmetology and sometimes cosmetology finds them. Such was the case for Alice, who was paired with cosmetology as a vocational class in high school and instantly fell in love.
Inspiration flows to Alice from nearly every medium imaginable: from Julia Child's culinary work, nature, old films, sports and fellow industry leaders—Alice sees new pathways to beauty surrounding her every day.
As the beauty in life catches Alice's attention, she aims for each look created for her guests to turn others' heads as well. Sharing new perspective is one of her favorite things about hairdressing and working as one of Genacelli Salon's educators. For Alice, it's all about "using my talent, artistry and skill that lives inside me and seeing that I made a positive mark on someone's life."
Her most respected tools are her collection of shears and Kerastase Double Force hair spray. Alice loves turning retro styles into modern looks and challenges herself with everyday inspiration to create dynamic and versatile designs with guests.
Master Stylist/Salon Educator
Peter's start in cosmetology came earlier than most. "When I was young", he recounts, "I went to the salon with my mom every week. Everyone knew everyone; it was always a good time." Peter turned those wonderful memories into a flourishing career. For Peter it is still a good time. His positive perspective and winning charm can turn any day into a great day.
Though Peter excels in hair color, the very medium he teaches at the salon, he admits proudly to forever being himself a student; always learning, always growing. As he puts it, "I never stop growing as an artist."
The key to helping a guest style their hair is heat protection and frizz control, achieved with products such as Shu Uemura's Satin Design and White Tea Polishing Milk. Combined with the right brush selection and professional styling tips he explains to each guest, Peter's work has longevity beyond the chair with all-day glamour and radiant healthy looking hair.

Drawing on her art school experience, Erica believes that hair is an everchanging canvas. Her transition into hairdressing was inspired by the evolving nature of the beauty and fashion industry; hence a multi-faceted hair stylist was born!
Erica's study in art supports how shape, balance, color, texture and proportion relate to the whole person; a consideration Erica takes before a single strand of hair is cut and colored. She has also added airbrush makeup and hair extensions to her list of beauty talents.
Fellow artists such as David LaChapelle, Tim Burton and Kat VonD are Erica's creative inspirations who push boundaries on beauty and art to make a statement about who they are. Looking to make a statement? Want to trun a few heads? Erica can make that happen.
